What is a CVT gearbox?

CVT stands for Continuously Variable Transmission and this is a type of automatic gearbox which due to its compact size, is often found in smaller vehicles. Unlike most gearboxes, the CVT uses a type of pulley system to affect gear changes which allows smooth acceleration and more efficient use of fuel.

Does my CVT gearbox need servicing?

Although the CVT gearbox is a fairly reliable piece of kit because it has few moving parts, it’s still best practice to have it serviced regularly to maintain optimum performance and reliability, and at Fife AutoTech we are pleased to provide CVT gearbox servicing at our workshop in Glenrothes.

How do you service a CVT gearbox?

At Fife AutoTech we carry out the following checks:

• We inspect fluids and filters and replace them where necessary as clean fluid is essential for optimum gearbox performance
• Your CVT gearbox has either a metal chain or a rubber belt which transfers power between the pulleys; we examine that for wear and tear and replace it if necessary
• We carry out a diagnostic check using VW Audi Group dealer diagnostic software to check for error codes or system issues
• And of course, we carry out a full visual examination to check the components and seals for damage or wear and tear.
