Another common reason to restore a vehicle’s software is to unmask possible software manipulation to hide a known fault, from our experience in the diagnostics of vehicles we have noticed a growing trend (along with many other diagnostic experts we speak to) where fault code deletion is becoming the ‘normal’ practice by car sales companies and those garages who would rather delete a fault code rather than fix the actual problem… so if your a garage/workshop that is struggling to find an issue with a car that you know has a fault but it shows no fault codes, it may be worth restoring the vehicle to its original software which may reveal more information and shed more light and allow you to find and repair your customer’s fault.
