What is the Haldex 4-wheel-drive system?

The Haldex 4WD system is now fitted on all VW Audi Group all-wheel drive (AWD) vehicles and it enables the vehicle to switch seamlessly between front-wheel and all-wheel drive. Does my car need a Haldex service?

In modern AWD vehicles, there is no longer a filter fitted to collect the unwanted particles of friction material that slowly build up within the oil in the clutch coupling; this has been replaced with an oil strainer which can get clogged up over time and can cause the oil around it to become contaminated with friction material. The result is less effective lubrication and as the Haldex clutch coupling is a wet clutch system, it’s vital that the oil surrounding it is uncontaminated to prevent overheating and damage to this vital component.

To ensure that your Haldex system continues to be correctly lubricated, regular Haldex services at Fife AutoTech are recommended. Our Haldex service is a full service including filter replacements and pump removal, not just an oil change.
